Modern doors use torsion springs mounted on a shaft above the door — quieter, safer and longer-lasting. Older doors use extension springs along the tracks. We service both, and when replacing torsion springs we'll size them precisely to your door's weight for proper balance. A correctly balanced door should hold its position when stopped halfway — if yours doesn't, your springs are wrong.
Standard residential springs are rated for ~10,000 cycles (about 7 years of typical use). For families that cycle the door 6–10 times a day, we offer high-cycle springs rated for 25,000–50,000 cycles, plus matched safety cables that prevent injury if a spring ever fails again.
